In a significant development, the city of Rourkela in Odisha is poised to launch a direct air link with Kolkata, enhancing connectivity and convenience for travellers. The initiative is backed by the Odisha government and is part of a state-sponsored route aimed at bolstering regional accessibility.
The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the government’s commitment to this endeavor on Tuesday (December 26), emphasising its support through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for 35 seats.
The inaugural one-way fare is set at an attractive Rs 1,999, ensuring affordability and accessibility for a broad spectrum of passengers.
The statement issued by the CMO also stated that the decision to introduce direct flights between Rourkela and Kolkata is a strategic move to facilitate smoother travel and contribute to the economic and tourism development of the region.
This move is expected to open up new opportunities for business, leisure, and tourism, particularly benefiting Sundargarh district.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, dense fog shrouded the national capital, causing disruptions to approximately 110 flights, both domestic and international, according to information from the Delhi Airport FIDS (Flight Information Display System). Indira Gandhi International Airport witnessed setbacks in flight operations due to adverse weather conditions and reduced visibility.
