Share Market Highlights: Nifty ends below 17950, Sensex tanks 600 pts, Bank Nifty falls 1%; HDFC Bank drags

Share Market News Today | Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices Highlights: Bears gripped Dalal Street amid tepid foreign flows and mixed global cues. NSE Nifty 50 closed at 17,914 levels, down 187 pts or 1.03%, and BSE Sensex declined over 631 pts or 1.04% to close at 60,115 levels. Broader markets, too, fell in line with the benchmarks as Nifty MidCap 100 and Nifty SmallCap 100 indices fell up to 0.5%. India VIX, the volatility gauge, meanwhile, surged over 5%. Barring Nifty Auto index, all sectors drowned in the sea of red. Nifty PSU Bank was the worst hit amongst all sectoral indices as it declined over 2%.

Benchmark indices ended lower with Sensex falling over 600 pts and Nifty settling below 17,950. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices fell 0.5 percent each.

14:45 (IST) 10 Jan 2023 Weakness in global markets trickles to Indian equities

Asian markets were mixed on Tuesday as growing optimism over China’s economic reopening was offset by warnings that US interest rates will continue to rise and stay elevated for some time. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.78%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was 0.43% lower.

According to market watchers, today’s sell-off could be led by FIIs who have sold Indian stocks worth over $1 billion so far this month. Even yesterday, FIIs sold Indian equities worth Rs 203 crore. The total foreign outflow so far in January is now at Rs 8,548 crore, shows NSDL data. Analysts say, with China reopening, a part of FII money could be shifting to emerging markets that are less expensive than India.

14:43 (IST) 10 Jan 2023 Hawkish Fed spooks D-St investors

Fears around the US Federal Reserve’s rate hike trajectory came back to haunt investors as they digested hawkish comments from Fed officials overnight. San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly said she expects the central bank to boost interest rates above 5% to get inflation down. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said Fed should hike rates to above 5% by early in the second quarter and then go on hold for a long time.

Sensex is down 653.47 points or 1.08% at 60093.84, and the Nifty declined 207.60 points or 1.15% at 17893.60

13:55 (IST) 10 Jan 2023 Adani Group shares under pressure

Shares of Adani group companies were under pressure on Tuesday, falling up to 5% on the BSE, as the benchmark index fell over 1%. Adani Enterprises, Ambuja Cements, Adani Power, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Adani Wilmar, Adani Total Gas, ACC, Adani Green Energy and Adani Transmission fell in the range of 2 to 5% on the BSE. In comparison, the S&P BSE Sensex was trading lower by 1.2% at 60,047.

13:30 (IST) 10 Jan 2023 Tata Motors shares soar 7%

Shares of Tata Motors rallied nearly 7% to Rs 415.8 in Tuesday’s trade after its global wholesales in Q3FY23 increased by 13% compared to Q3FY22. “The Tata Motors NSE 6.41 % Group global wholesales in Q3FY23, including Jaguar Land Rover, were at 3,22,556 units, higher by 13%, as compared to Q3FY22,” the company said in a BSE filing.

Sona BLW Precision Wires up over 7% was the top gainer among the BSE 500 stocks. It was followed by Tata Motors, Tanla Platforms, Tata Motors-DVR and Vardhman Textile, up 3-6% each.

Lupin received receipt of approval from the Spanish Ministry of Health for the reimbursement of Lupin’s NaMuscla® (mexiletine) for the symptomatic

treatment of myotonia in adults with non-dystrophic myotonic disorders. The share has gained 2% on the back of this update, trading at Rs 764 on the BSE.

NCLT approved Adani Goodhomes’ resolution plan for Radius Estates, a JV partner of MIG (Bandra) Realtors & Builders, which is a subsidiary of DB Realty. Radius Estates and MIG are developing Project Ten BKC property in Mumbai. (ACM Group)

The share price of DB Realty soared 2% intraday, touching a high of Rs 90.9 before paring some gains.

As markets continue their downward spiral, Nifty gave up the 18,000 level by declining 122 points or 0.67% to trade at 17,979.

09:40 (IST) 10 Jan 2023 Tata Motors soars 5.6%

Amid a negative domestic market, Tata Motors outperformed to gain 5.6%, at Rs 411.20. The rise comes as the company reports that their global wholesales number in Q3FY23, including Jaguar Land Rover, was 3,22,556, higher by 13%, as compared to Q3FY22.

After opening mild in red, Nifty and Sensex continued to extend losses, down 0.4% respectively. Nifty tumbled under the 18,050 level, down 81 points at 18,019 while Sensex lost 360 points, to trade at 60,387.

After posting muted Q3FY23 earnings on Monday, TCS has sunk almost 2% at open on Tuesday. The scrip dropped fell to Rs 3,254.4, down by Rs 65.

“Gold posted a small gain in 2022; no mean feat given an unprecedented rise in rates and a strong US dollar. 2022 was a textbook example of gold’s stable and uncorrelated performance amid market turbulence. “A long bull candle was formed on the daily chart, which indicates an upside bounce ion the market after a decline of few sessions. After the formation of lower tops and bottoms on the daily chart, Nifty seems to have formed a higher bottom on Friday at 17,795 levels. But this needs to be confirmed with follow-through upmove in the subsequent sessions. The present upside bounce could be a cheering factor for bulls to make a comeback,” said Nagaraj Shetti, Technical Research Analyst, HDFC Securities.

The National Stock Exchange has kept Indiabulls Housing Finance and GNFC under its F&O ban list for 10 January. According to the NSE, the stocks mentioned above are prohibited in the F&O sector because they have exceeded 95% of the market-wide position limit (MWPL). During the F&O ban period, no new positions are permitted for F&O contracts in these stocks.

Foreign institutional investors (FII) net sold shares worth Rs 203.13 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) net bought shares worth Rs 1,723.79 crore on 9 January, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.

Overnight, Wall Street closed mixed, as the S&P 500 closed down 0.1%, erasing early gains and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed lower by 0.3%. Investors are awaiting comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who some strategists expect could say more time is needed to show inflation is under control.
