The Delhi airport on December 25 diverted eight flights between 6 am to 9 am due to bad weather conditions, PTI reported earlier citing an official. While seven flights were diverted to Jaipur, one saw a diversion to Ahmedabad.

Keeping yesterday’s figures in mind, what can be expected today?

In its latest advisory posted at 7:20 am, the Delhi airport said that while landing and takeoffs continue at the airport, flights that are not CAT-III compliant may get affected. It further asked the passengers to get in touch with their respective airline for updated information.

Dense fog to continue over Delhi

The latest weather prediction published by the IMD on December 25 said that dense to very dense fog conditions were likely to continue in some pockets of Delhi along with those in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh during December 26-28 during early hours/morning hours.

At 7:06 am today. the IMD said that a fog layer is spreading over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh.

The predictions by RWFC say that Delhi will have partly cloudy sky today and is likely to witness dense to very dense fog in the early hours. The temperature in New Delhi is likely to hit 25 degree Celsius today while the lowest it is expected to hit is 7 degree Celsius.

The predictions hint that more flights could face disruptions today as the cold weather continues to unfold across the country and the spell of dense fog marches on over several cities.

What did Delhi Airport do to deal with fog?

Yesterday, the Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory in response to the significant impact of dense fog on airport operations. The advisory noted that while landings and take-offs were still in progress, flights not meeting CAT III standards could experience disruptions. Passengers were urged to reach out to their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight information.

To address the foggy conditions, authorities implemented the CAT-III Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling precise approaches and landings during periods of reduced runway visibility.
