09:47 (IST) 6 Feb 2023 Adani crisis impact on market dying down slowly

“After the Adani crisis broke out, the market has been on a twin track – a crash in Adani stocks and stability in the rest of the market. The banking segment, which also came under pressure of fears of the crisis impacting banks, has recovered. The crisis is unlikely to pose any systemic risk to the Indian banking system. It appears that the Adani crisis’ impact on the market is slowly dying down. Excellent results from ITC and SBI are likely to support the market. Globally, the surprise element is the robust job numbers in the US which came to 517000 in January. This tight labour market in the US indicates continuing strength in the U.S. economy and the possibility of the US recession receding. At the same time, the Fed will be forced to remain hawkish for an extended period of time. The US CPI data to be published on 14th February will be keenly watched by the market.” – V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

09:45 (IST) 6 Feb 2023 Nifty Outlook

“Expect distribution once inside the 17850-950 region, followed by attempts to slip. Initial attempts to do so are likely to find bargain buying interest while above 18750 but expect the weakness to have at least another letdown aiming at 17650. This measured downside or consolidation should set up the environment for a directional move shortly. We will wait for a break beyond 17450 before collapse theories aiming 16500 are considered again, while pushback above 17850 will increase the odds of a 18300 move shortly.” – Anand James – Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

09:06 (IST) 6 Feb 2023 Markets may open lower

“The market is anticipated to open down due to patterns in the SGX Nifty, which suggest an opening loss of 20 points for the larger Indian index. On Friday, a barometer of global equities fell more than 1%, while US Treasury yields and the currency increased after a startlingly positive US jobs data stoked new worries that the Federal Reserve may continue to raise interest rates aggressively in an effort to control inflation.”

08:37 (IST) 6 Feb 2023 Nifty likely to be in trading range of 17100-18500

“Markets are likely to start Monday session on a weak note following a slump in the US markets on Friday as investors fear that more rate hikes going ahead could lead to a slowdown in global growth and hence recession in key global economies. Local markets would also be gearing up for the RBI’s credit policy on Wednesday, and the central bank may opt for a rate hike to keep the inflation under control. While the markets could see bouts of intra-day volatility, some positive news like a sharp drop in international crude oil prices coupled with strong earnings growth from SBI could strengthen investors’ confidence in the local growth story. Technically, Nifty is likely to be in a trading range of 17100-18500 zone.” – Prashanth Tapse – Research Analyst, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd.
