Water supply in parts of Delhi has been affected once again on account of high ammonia levels in the Yamuna River causing up to a 30 per cent decrease in the water production level at the Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants.
Water production at the Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants has been curtailed by 25% to 30% due to high levels of ammonia at the Wazirabad pond, from where these plants draw raw water, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) said on Monday, PTI reported.
While the DJB’s water treatment plants can treat ammonia only up to around 1 ppm (parts per million), the ammonia level at the Wazirabad pond is more than 2.3 ppm.
Water supply was therefore available at low pressure in parts of Civil Lines, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Premnagar, Inderpuri, Old and New Rajinder Nagar, Kalkaji, Govindpuri, Sangam Vihar, Tughlaqabad, Delhi Gate, Model Town, Gulabi Bagh, South Extension, Punjabi Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Moolchand, Greater Kailash, Burari, and parts of South Delhi and the Delhi Cantonment areas, DJB said, PTI reported.
