Delhi-Meerut RRTS: The first look of India’s first state-of-the-art Regional Rapid Transit System – RRTS – train has been unveiled! The RRTS train sets with stainless steel outer body, will be the first-of-its-kind in India with a design speed of 180 km per hour. One of the three prioritized RRTS corridors of NCRTC, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will be the first such corridor to be implemented in phase-1. Once the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is ready, the travel time from the national capital to Meerut will be reduced to less than 1 hour from the existing time of 3-4 hours by road. For the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, the entire rolling stock will be manufactured at Bombardier’s Savli plant in the state of Gujarat. Here’s a sneak peek into what the RRTS train will look like:

The fully air-conditioned aerodynamic RRTS trains will be lightweight. Each train will have one Business Class coach with comfortable, spacious and reclining seats. This coach will be easily accessible through a special lounge at the platform-level. Also, the Business Class coach will have automatic food vending machine.

These trains will have transverse 2×2 seating arrangement with adequate legroom for passengers, optimized aisle width with grab handles as well as grab poles for a comfortable journey for standing commuters.
4/9
For ease of access and exit, there will be six automatic plug-in type wide doors in each car, three on each side and in Business Class, there will be four such doors, two doors on each side.
5/9
The trains will have mobile/laptop charging sockets, overhead luggage rack, and on board Wi-Fi, public announcement and display system, an infotainment display, dynamic route map display, emergency communication facilities along with double glazed, tempered safety glass windows.
6/9
The RRTS rolling stock, will have lighting and temperature control systems in order to enhance the passenger experience with less consumption of energy. Near the train doorway, there will be universally accessible- dedicated wheelchair space for easy access. Also, in every train, there will be one coach reserved for women passengers.
7/9
The trains will also boast fire & smoke detector, CCTV, fire extinguisher and door indicator along with Innovative Train Control Monitoring System technology, and its predictive and condition-based monitoring features.
8/9
Given the high-speed operations of these RRTS trains, all the stations will have platform screen doors for safety of commuters. The RRTS train doors will be integrated with these platform screen doors. There will be push buttons in these trains for selective opening of doors on a requirement basis. This eliminates the need of opening all train doors at every RRTS station, thus leading to energy saving.

The prototype train is scheduled to roll off the production line in the year 2022 and will be introduced to the public only after extensive trials.
