Staying true to the prediction by the India Meteorological Department, a dense fog engulfed Delhi on Tuesday morning as the mercury level hovered around 7 degree Celsius.
As a result, the visibility at Delhi’s main weather station at Safdarjung was 200 metres at 5:30 and while the visibility at Palam was 100 metres.
After the Delhi airport saw right flights being diverted on Monday between 6 am to 9 am, about 30 flights were delayed today due to fog and low visibility. This included several international flights.
Earlier today, the Delhi airport had issued an advisorysaying that while landing and takeoffs continued at the airport, flights that are not CAT-III compliant may get affected. It further asked the passengers to get in touch with their respective airline for updated information.
IMD’s prediction
In its weather forecast, the IMD had said that dense to very dense fog conditions were likely to continue in some pockets of Delhi along with those in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh during December 26-28 during early hours/morning hours.
As the fog continued to engulf the national capital, the city’s AQI reading remained in the “very poor” category at 374 at 9:05 am.
