The India Meteorological Department took to X, formerly Twitter, at 7:06 am today to say that a fog layer is spreading over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh.
This comes after the agency had earlier the probability of dense to very dense fog over the regions.
In a press release published on December 25, the IMD said that there is a high probability of dense to very dense fog persisting in the early and morning hours across specific regions
From December 26 to 28, these conditions are expected in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, dense fog is anticipated over Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh on the 26th and 27th, as well as in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad today.
Further forecasts indicated the continuation of dense fog in isolated pockets on the 26th and 27th in Odisha, from the 26th to the 28th in Uttarakhand, on the 27th and 28th in Jammu-Kashmir, and on the 29th and 30th in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. The period from the 26th to the 30th of December is also expected to see dense fog in Assam & Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
Fresh spell of rainfall over Coastal Tamil Nadu
The agency said that propelled by robust Northeasterly winds, a fresh spell of light to moderate rainfall is likely over Coastal Tamil Nadu from December 30 to January 1.
Additionally, a fresh Western Disturbance is anticipated to impact Northwest India starting from December 29. Interacting with lower-level easterly winds, it is expected to instigate a Wet Spell over Northwest and adjoining Central India spanning from December 30 to January 2.
Over the next few days, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Lakshadweep.
The IMD added that over the next couple of days there is no expected significant change in minimum temperatures likely over most parts of the country.
