The Eastern Railway has revealed that around 3 lakh passengers hopped on board the North-South Metro in Kolkata on Christmas till 6 pm. Kausik Mitra, Eastern Railway spokesperson, told The Indian Express that the North-South Metro carried 2,98,116 passengers, marking a 17,753 jump than the figure recorded in 2022.

On December 24, Christmas eve, the Metro carried 2,61,759 passengers till 6pm.
Metro timings extended on Christmas
The timings of the Metro were extended from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash were extended till 10.58 pm from 9.28 pm, The Indian Express reported. The last Metro from Kavi Subhash was to leave Dum Dum at 11.10 pm instead of 9.40 pm on December 25.
Before the stroke of midnight on Sunday preceding Christmas, Kolkata Police apprehended 325 individuals for unruly behavior and confiscated 40 liters of liquor, as per officials.
In addition, the city’s traffic police issued fines or prosecuted 459 individuals, with 131 caught riding without a helmet, 93 exhibiting reckless driving, and 89 driving under the influence, as reported by officials.
